Matthew Cave, the recipient of the South Australian Premier’s Defence Industry Scholarship, has secured full time employment at APC Technology following his 20-week placement.
The Flinders University engineering student has accepted a permanent position as an undergraduate engineer throughout his final year of study.
Matthew said the placement offered him hands on industrial experience where he could apply his theoretical knowledge.
“On reflection, I cannot believe how much I have been exposed to during my placement,” he said.
“I had the opportunity to work on a multitude of projects, all at various stages.
“[Now], my position as an undergraduate engineer provides me with financial stability but also the opportunity to continue developing my practical skills and broadening my experience.”
The Premier’s Defence Industry Scholarship is designed to support university students with industry placements throughout their studies, as well as assist the defence industry to build in-demand skills. The scholarship program has helped set numerous students up for success within the defence industry, with APC Technology previously hiring 2020 participant, Brandon Sears, following his his placement with the company.
APC Managing Director, Scott Begbie, said APC Technology were excited to once again be participating in the program.
“The impact of our participation has exceeded expectations with both recipients now a part of the APC engineering team,” he said.
“Matt and Brandon bring fresh ideas, current engineering concepts and skills whilst gaining the opportunity to apply their knowledge to real world engineering projects.”
