Fostering business participation in the tax system
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is the Australian Government’s principal revenue collection agency.
It is responsible for administering Australia’s tax system and significant aspects of Australia’s superannuation system.
In response to the Australian Government’s commitment in 2016 to invest approximately $195 billion in defence capability through to 2025-26, a dedicated national defence project team has been established in the ATO, led from the South Australian office.
We recognise that the Australian tax system is challenging and complex, particularly for businesses that are new to Australia.
We offer a range of services to make it easier for defence clients as they set up in Australia:
- Dedicated point of contact
Our established team offers a dedicated point of contact in the ATO. This facilitates efficient and easy access to tailored interactions with the right areas in the ATO.
- Education and guidance
By educating business and providing guidance, we seek to ensure that defence businesses are aware of, and managing their Australian tax obligations. Our intention is to make it easy for defence industry clients to comply with tax obligations.
- Hub for industry expertise
We have established a body of expertise in dealing with defence clients. Using our commercial understanding of the industry to tailor our engagements, we are able to offer increased access to relevant expert advice.
The ATO aims to contribute to the economic and social wellbeing of Australians by fostering willing participation in the Australian tax system. We seek to achieve this by working with businesses and creating an environment where it is easy for them to navigate the tax system and achieve the right tax outcomes.
