Defence SA social media accounts are owned and managed by Defence SA’s internal communications team.
The Guidelines below apply to all relevant social media channels across all platforms (included but not limited to, Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube).

When we are online
Our accounts are only monitored during business hours (8.30am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday).
Terms of use
Our channels are a safe space and we welcome diverse viewpoints. When commenting or contributing to our posts, we encourage you to:
- ask questions
- engage in constructive, open and honest conversation relevant to the topics and issues being discussed
- respect others’ views
- protect your personal privacy and that of others.
We will never respond to, but may without warning report, remove, or block posts and users that:
- abuse, harass or threaten others
- could be considered prejudicial, racist or inflammatory
- use obscene and offensive language or images
- contain misleading, deceptive, false, defamatory or libellous comments
- incite, induce, or aid violence or encourage conduct that may constitute a criminal or civil offence or otherwise violate Australian law
- impersonate or falsely represent a person or entity
- are overtly party political
- use material that infringes on the intellectual property rights of others
- are considered spam or trolling
- make direct reference to staff members publicly
- promote sale of products or services for any commercial purpose unless you have our written consent to do so
- contain personal information (emails addresses, phone numbers or private addresses).
Privacy
In accordance with South Australian Government State Records Act 1997 and The Archives Act 1983, all Defence SA social media content will be recorded and archived.

Following and sharing content
We may like, share or re-publish content outside of our regular portfolio. This does not constitute endorsement of content. Similarly, we may choose to follow other organisations or individuals. Being followed by Defence SA social media channels does not imply endorsement of any kind.
Link shortening
Unless they are already very short, we will shorten URLs with commonly used link compressing services, such as Bitly.
